Ambulance Service in Dhaka: How to Book One Fast

What to do when someone needs an ambulance in Dhaka: when to call 999, how to book an ambulance from your phone, what to tell the crew, and how to prepare.

By the Arohon team

When someone you love is sick, every minute feels like an hour. This guide is written to be useful in that moment: what to do first, how to get an ambulance quickly in Dhaka, and how to prepare so the crew can help from the moment they arrive.

First: is it life threatening?

If someone is unconscious, not breathing, has severe chest pain, heavy bleeding or signs of a stroke, call 999 immediately. 999 is Bangladesh's national emergency number. Then arrange transport while you wait for instructions.

How to book an ambulance from your phone

Arohon lets you book an ambulance from the same app you ride with, any hour:

  1. Choose the hospital. The app suggests hospitals nearest to you first, or you can search any place.
  2. Tell the crew what the patient needs: a stretcher, oxygen, a wheelchair, or space for a companion.
  3. Pickup now or schedule. Book for right away, or schedule a hospital visit later.
  4. Choose an offer. Nearby ambulances send their price. Pick the one that suits you.
  5. Pay the agreed price in cash to the crew at the end of the trip.

What to tell the crew

The more the crew knows, the better prepared they arrive:

  • Is the patient able to sit or walk?
  • Do they need oxygen?
  • Is there a lift in the building, or stairs?
  • Will a family member travel along?
  • Which hospital, and does the hospital know you are coming?

Be ready before you need it

  • Save 999 and your nearest hospital's emergency number in your phone.
  • Keep a folder with the patient's prescriptions, reports and NID.
  • Know your building's access: lift size, gate code, and the best pickup point.
  • Install a booking app now, not during an emergency.
