You book a ride, the driver accepts, the little icon starts moving toward you, and then it stops. A minute later, a message: trip cancelled. You book again. Same thing. Twenty minutes gone, you are late for work, and you are still standing on the road in Mirpur. Cancellations are one of the most common complaints passengers have about ride apps in Dhaka.
The good news is that many cancellations have clear causes, and a few small changes on your side can make a real difference.
Why drivers cancel
Drivers cancel for reasons that are sometimes fair and sometimes not. Knowing them helps you avoid the common traps.
- The destination does not suit them. A driver near Gulshan may not want a trip to the far edge of the city where there is little chance of a return passenger.
- The pickup is hard to reach. A narrow lane, a one way road or a pin dropped in the wrong place can mean a long detour.
- Traffic in between. Accepting a ride from across a jammed junction like Mohakhali or Farmgate can mean 20 minutes just to reach you.
- They want to negotiate. Some drivers call, ask for extra cash, and cancel when the passenger says no.
- Low earnings per trip. When an app takes a large cut of each fare, short or low value trips may not feel worth it to the driver.
- Genuine problems. Fuel, a flat tyre, a sudden personal matter. These happen too.
What you can do to get picked up faster
Set an accurate pickup point
This is the single biggest fix. Place the pin exactly where you are standing, ideally on a main road or at a clear landmark such as a mosque gate, a shop or a building name. If you are inside a large complex, walk to the main gate.
Add a clear destination
A clear, correct destination helps the driver see the trip properly and plan the route. Changing the destination after pickup can lead to confusion.
Be ready when the driver arrives
Drivers sometimes cancel after waiting for a passenger who is still upstairs. Book when you are almost ready to leave, and keep your phone in hand so you can answer the call.
Answer the driver's call
A quick call often settles small issues, like which side of the road you are on. Many cancellations happen simply because the driver could not find the passenger.
Choose the right vehicle for the trip
- Short trip in heavy traffic: Better choice Bike or EV bike
- Medium trip with bags: Better choice CNG
- Long trip, family or airport run: Better choice Car or car plus
- Group or lots of luggage: Better choice Micro or Hiace
Matching the vehicle to the trip means drivers see a ride that makes sense for them.
Avoid the peak minutes if you can
At rush hour, rain or the end of big events, demand rises sharply. Leaving 15 to 20 minutes earlier or later can change how quickly you are matched.
What not to do
- Do not pay extra cash to a driver who calls asking for more. It encourages the same behaviour with the next passenger.
- Do not book multiple apps at once and cancel on drivers. It wastes drivers' time and makes the problem worse for everyone.
- Do not get into a vehicle that is not the one you booked, even if a driver nearby offers to take you after a cancellation.
Why a fairer driver model matters
Many cancellations come down to money. If a driver keeps only a small share of a fare after commission, a short trip through traffic may simply not be worth it, and the temptation to cancel or ask for extra grows.
Most ride apps take 15% to 25% of every fare from drivers. A lower, simpler deal for drivers means more trips are worth accepting and completing, which is better for passengers too.
How Arohon helps
- A fairer deal for drivers. Drivers on Arohon pay a flat 2% commission plus a ৳3 safety charge and a booking fee based on the fare: ৳5 under ৳200, ৳10 from ৳200 to ৳349, ৳15 from ৳350 to ৳499 and ৳20 from ৳500. On a ৳100 trip, that is ৳10 in total.
- Upfront fares. The fare is shown before you book, so there is no room for a call asking for extra.
- Driver details. See the driver's name, photo and plate, so you know exactly which vehicle to look for.
- Many vehicle types. Bike, EV bike, CNG, car, car plus, micro and Hiace.
- Rental and intercity offers. For longer trips, you send a request and drivers send offers, so you can compare price, rating and car before you choose.
Rides on Arohon are paid in cash to the driver.

Frequently asked questions
Why does my ride keep getting cancelled?
Common reasons include an unclear pickup point, a destination the driver does not want, heavy traffic between you and the driver, and low earnings on the trip. Setting an accurate pin on a main road fixes many cases.
Should I pay extra when a driver asks for more cash?
No. The fare shown in the app is the fare. Paying extra encourages the practice. Cancel and book again if a driver insists.
Does the vehicle type affect cancellations?
It can. Picking a vehicle that suits the trip, such as a bike for a short trip in traffic or a car for an airport run, makes the ride more practical for drivers.
How does Arohon reduce cancellations?
Arohon keeps driver costs low with a flat 2% commission plus a ৳3 safety charge and a small booking fee, compared with the 15% to 25% most ride apps take. Upfront fares also remove the reason to call and negotiate.
What should I do after several cancellations in a row?
Check that your pickup pin is accurate, move to a main road or landmark if you can, and consider a different vehicle type. If it is rush hour or raining, a short wait can also help.
